What We Do

Empowering the Community through Bikes

At Good Karma Bikes, we believe that access to transportation is access to opportunity. A bike can mean the difference between missing a job interview and landing it, between isolation and connection, between standing still and moving forward.

We serve those who need it most — people experiencing homelessness, low-income individuals, recent immigrants, youth, and returning citizens — providing bikes and programs that open doors and build independence.

But our mission goes beyond the ride. We bring together a community of people who believe in showing up for one another: young and old, working and retired, from every background, faith, and walk of life. Diverse in our stories, united in our purpose.

Here are some of the ways we're making it happen.

Pedal Forward

Free Bike Program

We partner with community organizations to get bikes into the hands of people who need them most.

If you're an individual seeking a bike, the first step is to have your case worker reach out to us by email. From there, they'll be asked to complete a short form, and requests are evaluated based on need and availability. Demonstrating proof of need — such as receiving government assistance — is an important part of the process.

To request a free bike, have your case worker email freebikes@goodkarmabikes.org.

If you represent an organization and are interested in becoming a partner, we'd love to hear from you as well — reach out to freebikes@goodkarmabikes.org.

Helping Hand

Free Saturday Bike Repair Program

Every Saturday, we offer free bike repairs for community members in need. Slots are limited, so arrive before 10am to secure your spot. Proof of government assistance is required (e.g., Medi-Cal, CalFresh card).

  • Drop-Off: Starts at 10am. Arrive before 10am to reserve a slot.

  • Pick-Up:  Goal by 2pm, guaranteed by 4pm. Timing depends on the nature of the repair, number of bikes, and mechanic availability.

  • What's covered? Up to two repairs at the mechanic's discretion. Safety repairs are prioritized. Bikes must be in functional condition. Cosmetic repairs are not available through this program.

  • Can't make it work this Saturday? You're welcome to come back another week, or book a regular retail service appointment with us.

  • Please note: Bikes not picked up by 4pm will be left outside the shop.

Come find us at the back of the shop. We'd love to see you there!

Rolling Start

Free Kid's Bike Program

Kids outgrow their bikes fast, and we want to make sure every child has one that fits.

We provide free kids' bikes for families in our community. Many parents drop off the bike their child has outgrown, pick up the next size up, and make a donation to keep the cycle going. It's a simple way to pay it forward.

A few things to know:

  • Kids' bikes are those with 20" wheels and under

  • Your child must be present to be fitted for a bike

  • For those who are able, we suggest a $20 donation to support our mission

Come see us during shop hours — we'd love to meet your little rider!

Riding to Roll Call

Youth School Attendance Program

Education is one of the most powerful paths to empowerment and self-reliance, but you have to be able to get there first.

We partner with local schools to help reduce absenteeism by putting bikes in the hands of students who need reliable transportation. When kids can count on getting to school each day, everything else becomes possible.

Holiday Toy Box

Annual Holiday Giving Program

A bike is more than a gift. It's a doorway to independence, confidence and a lifelong love of riding.

Each holiday season, we partner with local community organizations to put bikes in the hands of young people who need them most. It's a moment that can spark something lasting.
