Caliper Brakes

We're back with the next Skills Building Session — and this one is all about Caliper Brakes!

We will kick things off with an overview of how caliper brakes work and how to diagnose and fix common issues. From there, we'll pair up and dive into a full repair on a real bike — including complete cable and housing replacement. We'll also tackle the caliper brake spare parts bin together: dumping, sorting, cleaning, and getting everything back to ready-to-use condition.

Viva CalleSJ2026

Viva CalleSJ is a free Open Streets program in San José that transforms streets into car-free spaces for walking, biking, and community connection. Good Karma Bikes along with our wonderful volunteers will provide a bike maintenance station (flat repair, brake adjustment, etc.) to keep you rolling.

Sisters in Cycling
Women's Night

A safe space to learn basic bike repair at your own pace, our programs emphasize inclusion, access, and community. Instruction includes basic skill development in common roadside repairs and mechanical safety. Bring your own bike or learn on one of ours.

Get your bike winter-ready! 🚲
This July's session goes beyond the basics — we'll cover how to prep your bike for winter riding, plus all the fundamental repair skills you know and love. Bring your own bike and get hands-on help troubleshooting whatever mechanical issue has been bugging you.
