Thanksgiving is about gratitude. This year, put yours in motion. Cranksgiving San Jose 2026 is a bike-based food drive that turns a Sunday ride into groceries for students facing food insecurity at San José State University. Grab your bike, bring about $25 for groceries, and ride with Good Karma Bikes on November 22.

What is Cranksgiving?

Cranksgiving is a food drive on wheels is a race to donate food items to the Spartan Food Pantry at San Jose State University!. Riders get a list of grocery store checkpoints and items to buy. Then they plan their own route, shop along the way, and deliver everything to the finish line for local families in need.

Cranksgiving rides happen in more than 100 cities across the United States, Canada and the UK. Most take place in November, close to Thanksgiving. Good Karma Bikes is proud to host San Jose's ride.

How Cranksgiving San Jose works

  1. Check in at Good Karma Bikes at 1:00 PM. Pick up your manifest of grocery stops and items.

  2. Plan your route. You choose how to get from store to store across San Jose.

  3. Ride and shop. The ride starts at 1:30 PM. Buy the listed items at each checkpoint and keep your receipts.

  4. Deliver the food. Bring everything back to the finish, where it goes to the Spartan Food Pantry.

What to bring

  • A bike in good working order (need a tune-up first? Stop by Good Karma Bikes)

  • A backpack, panniers or bike bag to carry groceries

  • A bike lock for each store stop

  • About $25 for groceries

  • Lights, a helmet and layers, since we ride rain or shine

Who you're riding for: the Spartan Food Pantry

Every item you buy goes to the Spartan Food Pantry at San José State University. The pantry supports students facing food insecurity. Once a week, students can pick up nutritious groceries at no cost.

For a student juggling classes, work and rent, a full bag of groceries can mean one less hard choice. Your $25 and a few miles on your bike help keep the shelves stocked heading into the holidays.
